The Fifth Element

Manchester United held Sevilla to a goalless draw in the first leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium last month.

Jose Mourinho had David De Gea to thank for the game ending in stalemate as the Spanish goalkeeper pulled off a number of world-class saves.

United are favourites to progress but Mourinho is expecting another tricky clash.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “I think tomorrow is a very difficult match.

“I think we’re playing against a team that didn’t lose against Liverpool home and away – scored goals in Liverpool and drew the match in Liverpool and when I say Liverpool, it’s an example of a very good team and an example of an important stadium with big tradition.

“When I say Liverpool, it is just to say that Sevilla is a really good team and the result of the first leg is a result that leaves everything open for tomorrow.

“I don’t feel that we have any advantage in this moment.

“We are going to try to prove that we are better [than the first leg] and to try to win the match tomorrow.”

Sevilla head coach Vincenzo Montella said: “It’s a special match because we can reach the quarter-finals.

“It is special for me and for the club because it has been 60 years that the team has not been able to play in that round.

“We need to score one goal, and at home, we had the opportunities.

“It’s going to be tough, but we have confidence.”
