Team News

According to, Nathaniel Clyne is Liverpool’s only absentee, as Jordan Henderson is expected to return to the starting XI.

The team has been in fine form of late―despite the defeat against Manchester United―and the number of players called up to the England national team reflects that, per James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo:

Watford don’t have such luxuries, per WhoScored. A total of eight players are expected to miss out, including Nathaniel Chalobah, Tom Cleverley and Gerard Deulofeu.

Liverpool have good health and form on their side, with just one defeat in all competitions since the start of February: last Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Manchester United.

The Reds played well in that contest but ran into an excellent David De Gea and solid tactics that negated some of their biggest strengths.

Despite the loss, things look rosy for manager Jurgen Klopp, who faces some tough choices on a weekly basis when it comes to picking his team. Fans don’t fare any better:

Watford will likely try to copy United’s tactics, but the Hornets lack the quality to match the Red Devils. Orestis Karnezis is a good goalkeeper but no world-beater, and their top creative men have struggled for form for some time now.

Without the threat of Richarlison and Troy Deeney―who have both been inconsistent of late―Liverpool can focus on pressing high and peppering the Watford box with crosses. There’s no De Gea to clean up for the defensive mistakes that are likely to follow, and Arsenal took full advantage of the space they got against the Hornets last Sunday.

Watford have put up a good fight against some top clubs this season and beat Chelsea recently, but that was with Deulofeu pulling the strings in the attacking third. With the Spaniard sidelined, Roberto Pereyra has been limited, and Richarlison has failed to pick up the slack.

There are no formalities in football, but Liverpool should take care of business at home in their final outing before the international break.

Prediction: Liverpool 4-1 Watford

The Fifth Element

Manchester United held Sevilla to a goalless draw in the first leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium last month.

Jose Mourinho had David De Gea to thank for the game ending in stalemate as the Spanish goalkeeper pulled off a number of world-class saves.

United are favourites to progress but Mourinho is expecting another tricky clash.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “I think tomorrow is a very difficult match.

“I think we’re playing against a team that didn’t lose against Liverpool home and away – scored goals in Liverpool and drew the match in Liverpool and when I say Liverpool, it’s an example of a very good team and an example of an important stadium with big tradition.

“When I say Liverpool, it is just to say that Sevilla is a really good team and the result of the first leg is a result that leaves everything open for tomorrow.

“I don’t feel that we have any advantage in this moment.

“We are going to try to prove that we are better [than the first leg] and to try to win the match tomorrow.”

Sevilla head coach Vincenzo Montella said: “It’s a special match because we can reach the quarter-finals.

“It is special for me and for the club because it has been 60 years that the team has not been able to play in that round.

“We need to score one goal, and at home, we had the opportunities.

“It’s going to be tough, but we have confidence.”

Stat attack

  • After winning their first seven Premier League games against Watford, Arsenal have lost their last two against the Hornets in the competition.
  • In all competitions, Watford have won two of their last three games at the Emirates, and have won four of their last seven away at Arsenal (L3).
  • Watford could become only the third side to win back-to- back away Premier League games at the Emirates, after Chelsea in November 2009 and Swansea in March 2016.
  • The Gunners haven’t failed to score in any of their last 11 games against Watford in all competitions.
  • Since beating Arsenal 2-1 in January 2017, Watford have lost their last six Premier League games in London, conceding 17 goals in that run (2.8 per game).
  • Arsenal have conceded in each of their last 11 Premier League games. They last had a longer run without a top-flight clean sheet between April and October 1988 (12 games).
  • Meanwhile, the north Londoners have also lost their last three Premier League games, last losing four in a row back in March 1995 under Stewart Houston.
  • Watford have won their last two Premier League games, last winning three in a row in December 2015 (a run of four).
  • Troy Deeney has scored the winning goal in both of those wins, with the scoreline being 1-0 both times.
  • The last time a team won three successive Premier League games 1-0, with the same player scoring the winner each time was Liverpool and Daniel Sturridge in September 2013.
  • Alex Iwobi has scored in both of his home league appearances against Watford. Indeed, against no Premier League side has he scored more goals than he has vs the Hornets (2, same as Crystal Palace).

Rangers vs Celtic

Rangers vs Celtic: TV channel, live stream, squad news & preview

Graeme Murty’s side are hoping to propel themselves back into the title race, but will need to beat their rivals for the first time in six years

Rangers are looking to build on their recent run of form and cut Celtic’s lead down to three points when they welcome their arch rivals to Ibrox on Sunday.

A run of four wins in the Premiership amid Celtic’s recent stumbles against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone has allowed Graeme Murty’s side to advance on their opponents and a victory on home soil would bring them into the title race.

Beating the champions is no easy feat, however, as Brendan Rodgers’ men have lost only twice in the league this season, and it has been almost six years since Rangers got the better of them.

Game Rangers vs Celtic
Date Sunday, March 11
Time 12:00 GMT / 07:00 ET

Kieran Tierney, Celtic

The game is being broadcast on Sky Sports Football in the United Kingdom and is also available to stream online on the Sky Go app as well as Celtic TV.

Position Rangers players
Goalkeepers Foderingham, Alnwick, Kelly
Defenders McCrorie, Martin, Wallace, Wilson, Tavernier, Bates, Hodson, John, Alves, Cardoso
Midfielders Holt, Dorrans, Halliday, Dalcio, Jack, Kranjcar, Pena, Rossiter, Windass, Goss, Docherty,
Forwards Miller, Herrera, Morelos, Nemane, Candeias, Cummings

Rangers could welcome Lee Wallace back into the side for the first time since September after he played in a bounce game in midweek, while Declan John is back in training, meaning coach Graeme Murty will have at least one fit left-back for this game.

Jamie Murphy is set to return to the starting XI after picking up an injury against St Johnstone and missing the win over Falkirk, but Graham Dorrans and Ross McCrorie are still out.

Potential Rangers starting XI: Foderingham, Tavernier, Martin, Bates, John, Goss, Docherty, Candeias, Windass, Murphy, Morelos

Position Celtic players
Goalkeepers Gordon, De Vries, Bain
Defenders Hendry, Simunovic, Gamboa, Boyata, Lustig, Compper, Ajer, Ralston, Miller, Tierney
Midfielders Bitton, Roberts, Brown, Sinclair, Armstrong, Hayes, Rogic, Ntcham, McGregor, Forrest, Musonda, Kouassi
Forwards Griffiths, Dembele, Edouard

Celtic welcomed Craig Gordon back to training earlier than expected this week, but the goalkeeper will not be fit on time for the big derby.

Jonny Hayes, Stuart Armstrong, Nir Bitton and Dedryck Boyata are all still out injured, while Mikael Lustig is suspended after picking up two yellow cards in their last league game at Aberdeen.

Potential Celtic starting XI: De Vries, Simunovic, Ajer, Hendry, Forrest, Brown, Ntcham, Tierney, Rogic, Sinclair, Dembele.

Niko Kranjcar Rangers

As runaway leaders, Celtic are the favourites to win another Old Firm derby and are available at Evens, according to dabblebet, while Rangers are priced at 13/5 and a draw is 5/2.

Leigh Griffiths Kieran Tierney Celtic

The Glasgow rivals were paired against each other in this week’s draw for the Scottish Cup semi-final, but Sunday’s game is a lot more than a warm up for the knockout clash at Hampden in April.

Many dismissed Rangers’ chances of getting to within touching distance of Celtic at this point in the campaign, but their current run has helped narrow the gap to six points.

The Gers may not have had much luck against Celtic in recent years, but they held out for a draw at Parkhead earlier this season and coach Graeme Murty is feeling confident they can improve on that as they for a way back into the title race.

However, having beaten Aberdeen two weeks ago, the reigning champions are still going strong despite previous slip ups, and coach Brendan Rodgers feels the pressure may be too great for Rangers approaching this fixture.

“We’ll work some elements of where we can hurt them and prepare really well for that and go there with confidence,” Rodgers told reporters.

Article continues below

“They’ve got a bit more spirit, from what I see, and they’ve probably found a consistency, but they’ve played without pressure for most of my time up here so they’ll feel this little bit of pressure in the game because it’s a game they have to win.

“We want to win it, of course, the same as every game we play, and especially against our rivals.”

Collum was the man in the middle last season as Callum McGregor and Scott Sinclair’s goals helped the Hoops to a 2-0 win.

Earlier in the campaign he sent Philippe Senderos packing for two bookings as Celtic thrashed Gers 5-1 at Parkhead.

What’s the team news?

Graeme Murty will delay naming his team for the visit of Celtic to give the likes of Russell Martin and Jamie Murphy every chance of making Sunday’s clash.

Martin missed training on Thursday while Murphy sat out last weekend’s victory over Falkirk after suffering a foot knock.

Left-backs Declan John and Lee Wallace are also fighting to return to fitness.

Celtic right-back Mikael Lustig is suspended.

Defender Dedryck Boyata and midfielder Stuart Armstrong return from a respective groin injury and hernia operation.

Nir Bitton (knee), Craig Gordon (knee), Leigh Griffiths (calf) and Jonny Hayes (broken leg) are still out.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. have ground to make up at the top of La Liga, starting with a testing trip to Ipurua on Saturday

Real Marid’s away form has ultimately damaged their Liga title push and Zinedine Zidane’s side face another tough test this weekend.

The Blancos travel to Ipurua on Saturday afternoon to face an Eibar side who have lost just four of their 14 home games in La Liga this season.

Only Atletico Madrid and Barcelona have beaten the Basque side in their last 11 outings on home soil, while Real were beaten 1-0 at Espanyol last time on the road.

Zidane’s side are 15 points behind leaders Barca going into the next round of games but have the opportunity to close the gap at least temporarily on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo PSG Real Madrid Champions League 06032018

Real come into the game full of confidence fresh from a 2-1 Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored one and assisted another at Parc des Princes on Tuesday, sending Los Blancos through to the quarter-final stage of the competition with an aggregate score of 5-2.

They remain some way behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the Liga table, however, with Saturday’s game an opportunity to make ground on their rivals.

Article continues below

Real have won their last three league trips to Eibar, scoring 10 goals on aggregate, and are unbeaten in the Basque Country since March 2015, though have only won three of their last nine league away games, failing to score in three them.

Eibar have failed to beat Real in their seven La Liga meetings, scoring just two goals, and have failed to score more than once in a game in their last five outings.

Will Eibar’s home form prove another sticking point for Zidane and his Real players?

Crystal Palace have it all to do in the Premier League tonight as Roy Hodgson’s depleted Eagles host Manchester United at Selhurst Park.

An injury-hit Palace fell to a morale-sapping late 1-0 home defeat against Tottenham last weekend, with Hodgson’s men facing a tough fixture list as they battle for top-flight survival.

Jose Mourinho’s United, meanwhile, are riding high after a 2-1 comeback win against champions Chelsea at Old Trafford to boost their hopes of a top-four finish.

Live Updates

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is targeting the same strong end to the season with which he led both Fulham and West Brom to Premier League survival.

The 70-year-old has watched his team, undermined by a succession of injuries and the improving form of their rivals, return to the division’s bottom three having already once fought their way to mid-table.

Hodgson had inspired a remarkable improvement after Palace lost their opening seven league fixtures without scoring a solitary goal, but the threat of relegation has again grown and largely because that start to the season has left them with so little margin for error.

Palace host Manchester United tonight before further fixtures with Chelsea, Huddersfield and Liverpool by the end of the month, after when they face a kinder run against Bournemouth, Brighton, Watford, Leicester, Stoke and West Brom.

Having guided Fulham to survival on the final day of the 2007-08 season and then Albion to safety four years later having only been appointed as late in the season as February, Hodgson was asked if Palace would need to do similarly, and he said: “We will, there is no doubt about that.

“Any teams who are going to avoid relegation will have strong ends to the season. You have got to string results together. I remember both of those periods very strongly. The one at Fulham was more dramatic because it went to the last day.

“The West Brom one was done a bit less dramatically so we did not feel the sword was hanging over us quite as long as at Fulham.

“On both occasions I remember the enormous joy and satisfaction that the players and the whole club took, having overcome a very difficult obstacle in front of them and come out the other side smelling of roses.

“There is no alternative but to keep your nerve and to remain as calm as you can.”

Nemanja Matic is feeling at home in Manchester but Jose Mourinho’s relentless drive for more means the midfielder will never get too comfortable at United.

After helping Chelsea to win their second Premier League crown in three years, the 29-year-old upped sticks and headed north in the summer to re-join his former manager at Old Trafford.

A trusted figure described by the Portuguese as a “Jose Mourinho player”, Matic made light of a disrupted pre-season by hitting the ground running at Old Trafford.

No outfield player has played more league minutes for United this season and the unassuming defensive midfielder relishes the demands put on him by Mourinho.

“He always wants the best,” Matic told Press Association Sport. “He always wants to win.

“Of course, him as a coach, if you play good he always thinks that you can play better. This is good. He always asks you to do more.

“I am happy that we work with him and he’s a coach who won many, many trophies in his career and for sure we can learn a lot of things form him.
